He wants the other meanings to be distant from them. He wants them to not dive into the water(poem) but rather skim along the water(literal meaning of poem). He wants them to have fun and enjoy the poem.

It says how gold is like new, like birth. It is an amazing when it is here for that time but it doesn’t stay for long. Its only here for a small amount of time. Gold can also be portrayed as good. But in the end, nothing good can stay forever. It sounds as if  Frost is depressed in this poem telling his audience with one line how nothing worth while can stay forever.
